Practice before you look
Try deciding warm or cool yourself first, then upload the reference and compare your judgment with the analysis.

Upload a reference image and get a visual guide for deciding whether to start with your warm primary set or your cool primary set. The tool looks at color bias, not simply how many red or blue pixels an image contains.
HOW IT WORKS
The analysis gives more influence to saturated, bright colors because those are the colors that tend to reveal a scene's temperature most clearly. Neutral grays, whites and blacks have very little influence.
For each primary family, the tool compares the direction of the color itself. Red is compared between orange-red and magenta-red; yellow between orange-yellow and green-yellow; and blue between violet-blue and cyan-blue. The three primary readings are then combined into an overall primary-set recommendation.
The separate scene feel reading emphasizes the strongest, most colorful parts of the reference. This is intentionally separate from the primary-pigment analysis because a scene's overall lighting and atmosphere are not the same thing as the direction of its pigments.

The reference is analyzed with Canvas in your browser. It is not uploaded to a Merrittrix server.
The recommendation is about your starting primary set. You can still mix cool shadows into a warm painting and warm accents into a cool one.
